Fast answer

Check the rear sync switches. If KeyStep is set to USB, MIDI or Sync In, it is waiting for that clock source. Select Internal for standalone operation.

Try these checks

  1. Read the rear-panel sync diagram and select Internal for a standalone test.
  2. Choose a stored sequence or arpeggiator, then press Play and play the required keys.
  3. If external sync is needed, select the matching input and start that source’s clock.

Diagnose it

Is an external sync mode selected?

Yes: Supply that clock or select Internal.

No: Check the sequence and playback mode.

What should happen

Standalone playback uses KeyStep’s tempo; an external mode follows its selected clock.

Why this happens

External sync modes depend on incoming timing and do not use the Rate knob as a running master tempo.

If it still doesn’t work
