Tempo modes

Manufacturer documented

Free does not synchronize to incoming clock. Beat match makes OP-1 the USB MIDI sync master. Sync listens for USB MIDI clock and uses internal timing when it is absent.

EXT indicates received clock in Sync mode. Tape speed remains separately adjustable; following clock does not automatically make every tape recording fit the master’s tempo.

Normal and controller operation

Manufacturer documented

The normal OP-1 mode in the COM screen uses USB MIDI for notes; its default MIDI channel is 1. Shift + blue encoder changes the channel in this mode.

CTRL is a separate controller mode. Normal OP-1 operation can already send MIDI from its sequencers, so CTRL is not required just to sequence another instrument.
