Receiving notes

Manufacturer documented

Use MIDI IN for notes from an external controller or sequencer. Hold MEMORY while powering on, choose a channel with step buttons 1–16, then press REC to save and restart. Match the sender to that channel.

The global MIDI RX ShortMessage switch must be On for short MIDI messages to be received. Turn it off only when deliberately filtering those messages.

Clock settings

Manufacturer documented

Hold FUNC while switching on to enter global parameter settings. Step 6 selects MIDI Clock Src: lit means Auto, unlit means Internal. Step 7 selects MIDI RX ShortMessage: lit means On.

Press REC to save global settings; PLAY cancels without saving. MIDI clock and the analogue SYNC connection are different paths—check the path you are actually using.

Triggering the drums

Manufacturer documented

Korg’s chart identifies these MIDI note numbers: kick 36, snare 38, low tom 43, high tom 50, closed hat 42, open hat 46 and clap 39. Use numbers rather than octave labels, which differ between controllers.

Only the specified drum notes produce sound. Check the full implementation chart for the remaining percussion parts; do not assume that every key triggers a drum.
