Check the rear LINE/MIC selection for your source, then raise REC GAIN until the input is healthy but not clipping. The Quick Start Guide says a low level may not cross the record-trigger threshold.
Do this first
- Connect the audio source to the rear INPUT and choose the appropriate LINE/MIC position.
- Open RECORD mode and play the source while watching the level meter.
- Set REC GAIN as high as practical without reaching the right edge of the meter.
- Press DO IT to record-enable, then start the source again.
Diagnose it
Does the meter show a very low or no signal?
Yes: Check cabling, LINE/MIC selection and REC GAIN before record-enabling again.
No: Use DO IT again; the second press starts recording without waiting for input.
Expected result
The MPC500 starts sampling when the input passes the trigger threshold, or immediately after the second DO IT press.

Recheck the physical MIDI direction and the exact source device setting. If this behavior differs on your hardware, keep the model/revision and setup details for a correction report.
